Aamir Khan is gaining a huge popularity in China
This 51 year old actor from India is none other than Aamir Khan who is gaining popularity on Chinese microblogging site Weibo.
Sina Weibo is akin to a hybrid of sites Facebook and Twitter, it is one of the most popular sites in China, in use by well over 30% of Internet users, with a market penetration similar to the United States’ Twitter. It was launched by Sina Corporation on 14 August 2009, and as of December 2012 has 503 million registered users.
Aamir Khan has more than 600K followers on Weibo and maintains active presence there, where he also promoted his film Dangal for Chinese audiences.
Dangal, which is known as “Let’s wrestle, Dad” in Mandarin, is based on a true story of two female wrestlers — and has gone on to become the highest-grossing Indian film ever in China.
The film was released across 9000 theatres across China, and has already made $100 million at the Chinese box office. The Chinese internet users have nothing but praise for the film — and for Aamir Khan.
