Pakistani director Iram Parveen Bilal’s feature film Josh (English Title:Against the Grain), will be showcased at the prestigious MAMI (Mumbai Film Festival) in the world cinema category. The World Cinema category focuses on screening the best films from all over the world, produced within one calendar year before the festival dates.

Josh is the story of a privileged woman whose life is shattered in a single moment. It is the story of a woman in search for a dangerous truth.  It is the story of the biggest challenge to Pakistan’s still reigning feudalism: the country’s youth. The film explores the internal debates the young are struggling with, and how solutions can be attainable if and when they stand united.

Josh revolves around the character Fatima, a committed schoolteacher living the cosmopolitan high life in Karachi, has her life shattered when her nanny, Nusrat, inexplicably disappears. Josh is the story of Fatima’s search, despite the warning of her friends and family, for a dangerous truth in Nusrat’s feudal village.

The cast includes talented names from Pakistan including, Aamina Sheikh, Mohib Mirza, Khalid Malik, Navin Waqar, Khalid Ahmed, Parveen Akber, Nyla Jafri, Kaiser Khan Nizamani, Saleem Mairaj, Adnan Shah Tipu, Ali Rizvi, Faizan Haqquee, Gul e Rana & many more.

Aamina Sheikh was featured in our recent article on Lamha (Seedlings) for which Aamina won the best Actress award at the NYCI (New Yowk City International Film Festival)

Another highlight of Josh is the inclusion of Ali Azmat’s song Na Re Na.

Iram Parveen Bilal studied at the California Institute of Technology in the US. Bilal is conscious of the rare opportunity and voice she has on the film making playground. Having directed internationally recognized, award-winning short films, Josh is her feature debut.

As per news reports, the festival was inaugurated yesterday by actor Sridevi at a simple function.
