May 21, 2016 [APNAHUB] – BMO IFFSA Toronto 2016 – The Biggest South Asian Film Festival in North America, now in its 5th year, has been hailed as one of the most glamorous events in the South Asian showbiz calendar not only here in North America, but on an international scale as well.

On May 20 at a starry gala night event, IFFSA Toronto president and founder Sunny Gill reiterated the commitment to take this annual event to further heights. Festival vice president Inder Chopra thanked sponsors and partners, and highlighted the efforts exerted by entire team. Inder Chopra also thanked the participants and community members who have always participated in huge numbers, which highlights the success of this annual festival that started with a vision five years ago.

With mainstream media, lights, cameras and clicks, Mississauga Convention Centre witnessed a red carpet starry night with our very own local celebrities shoulder to shoulder with visiting celebrities, film producers and directors from South Asian sub-continent.

The gala night dinner began with Jake Dheer taking the helm of affairs at the stage and he was at his best keeping the gala audience engaged. MP Kirsty Duncan who is Minister of Science, was invited to the stage along with other MPs that included Sonia Sidhu and Raj Grewal, and read a statement from Prime Minister of Canada Mr. Justin Trudeau recognizing the importance of such a festival and commending the organizers in bringing this festival to GTA.

Known as King of Romantic Pop, Bilal Saeed was invited to the stage to a cheering audience. He thanked the organizers for inviting him and reiterated the message of love he brought from his homeland Pakistan.

Sanskriti Arts performers kept the audience engaged with their performances with classical Indian, fusion of Spanish and other colourful dance numbers.

The festival will conclude on May 23 with the sold out screening of “Manto”, the much awaited Urdu film by renowned director Sarmad Khoosat, and a closing concert by Bilal Saeed later in the evening at Rose Theatre in Brampton.
