BRAMPTON, ON, August 29, 2016 – This Sunday, Ms. Kamal Khera, Mr. Raj Grewal, Ms. Ruby Sahota, Ms. Sonia Sidhu, and Mr. Ramesh Sangha, the five Members of Parliament representing Brampton, hosted a community barbecue. The event was open to all residents with complimentary food, music, and fun activities. Over twenty-five hundred residents came out to meet their Members of Parliament and to have a relaxing Sunday with their friends and families.
“What a beautiful day to enjoy the afternoon with our constituents”, Ms. Khera said, “It was a pleasure to see so many familiar faces and many more new ones”.
Since their election in October 2015, the Brampton Members of Parliament have been working hard to represent Bramptonians in Ottawa. All five Members of Parliament have spent the summer attending local events and meeting with residents to address local issues and to provide assistance with federal services, including immigration, employment insurance, and income tax assessments.
The Hon. Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development and Ms. Iqra Khalid, Member of Parliament for Mississauga – Erin Mills stopped by to support their colleagues.
Earlier, Ms. Kamal Khera hosted successful townhall meetings on democratic reform, national security (Bill C-51), healthcare, climate change, defense, and veteran’s affairs. The input collected is organized into a report and sent directly to the desk of the appropriate cabinet minister. During her first townhall meeting, a resident stood up to thank Ms. Kamal Khera stating, “This is democracy”.
“It is beautiful to see so many passionate energetic residents at our townhall meetings, listening, sharing ideas, and engaging in conversations with our neighbours”, said Ms. Kamal Khera.
Before the fall session commences, Ms. Kamal Khera will host two additional townhall meetings focused to Immigration and Infrastructure. The Honourable John McCallum, Minister of Immigration, Citizenship, and Refugees and the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities will attend these meetings personally to hear from residents first-hand.
